Results of our first group in Virginia Beach
Hello, all. We met today and played for about 4 hours. A great time was had by all. A few notes:

Took me a while to properly distribute resource points

Didn't get "facilities" set up fast enough to transport patients

Realized different units could perform multiple jobs (just like in real life!). For instance, police can clear roads.

Found out that calling out to others in the room was more effective than typing.

I think we'll try the next test from different rooms, so we have to type.

Not being able to properly treat and transport patients caused us the most concern (most of us are or were EMS). I think we can overcome that. The next biggest concern was that I stopped getting rescource points every 30 minutes. My command staff was calling for more resources, but I had no points to use.

Once we became familiar with the interface, it got pretty quiet. Everybody got in the "zone".

Anybody have a similar experience? How about the ambulance transports? Did you figure those out right away?

All in all, a cool simulation.

thanks for the feedback
Thanks so much for posting your experiences. I hope that we'll see more additions to this thread as copies of Incident Commander are received this month across the country.

Your experience of the room growing quiet as members become comfortable with the interface and get into the "zone" seems to be common. In each of the training classes we've run, there has come a point when people become familiar with the conventions of "simplay", start to focus on the incident, and begin to "forget" they are in a simulation. Sometimes we start to hear even more talking for periods of time as people begin to communicate more with one another: one of our goals of the training.

Let us know what's new with your training when you get a chance.
